Roblox, the popular online gaming platform, is reportedly on the verge of being classified as a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) under the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA). This designation would subject Roblox to additional regulations aimed at social networks, including stricter content moderation, transparency reporting, and risk assessments.
The classification is based on the platform's user numbers, which have reportedly crossed the threshold set by the EU. If confirmed, Roblox would be the first gaming platform to receive this status, marking a significant shift in how the EU regulates online gaming communities.
Under the DSA, VLOPs are required to take measures to address illegal content, protect minors, and provide more transparency about their algorithms and advertising practices. Roblox, which is particularly popular among younger users, would need to implement these measures to comply with EU regulations.
The move highlights the EU's growing focus on digital platforms and their impact on society, extending beyond traditional social media to include gaming and other interactive online spaces.
